  • Very good summary of the Windows 8 Development Platform
Good to hear some sanity added to the discussion. Metro style apps are great for what they are,but they are not the only style of application that windows will run. Most business applications will remain either Desktop (WinForm/WPF) or Rich Internet Applications (RIA) running with Silverlight or ASP.Net on a web server (ie SharePoint, Dynamics)

  • Why is the CubeField flash game so popular?
On http://Frogsfolly.com/Games, I like to put flash games that my kids or I discover while surfing' the web. Most games are fun for a few plays and then get tired and not played much. Traffic to these pages follows the same pattern. That is except for http://frogsfolly.com/cubefield it is consistently the most popular page on the site and the source of most of the inbound traffic. In fact, analytics reveals that people are actually searching for "Frogsfolly Cubefield" on Google to find the site. What is so compelling about Cubefield? It is a mystery to me.

  • New York City's School of One - Can it Fit All?
Pandora for the education crowd? I really like the quick feedback that the system provides as to what is, and is not, working for each child. Wonder how this would apply in a larger scale implementation. It is interesting to think about how we can now customize education to the child instead of a one-size fits all approach. Hey, if Watson can win on Jeopardy, then anything is possible, right?
  • Smart Filters - Refactoring Repetition
When faced with a repetition, you have several options: 1) Manually do it over and over again, 2) Hire a lower cost resource to do the task over and over again, 3) Con someone into thinking they really want to do the task over and over again, 4) Automate the task so a machine does it over and over again, 5) Rework the problem to eliminate the need for the task. This is a great example of #5 and points to why it sometimes takes longer to find the easy solution.
  • 2 Million Vertical Feet in 2010 - What did you do last year?
Crazy Canadian climbs and skis down over 2 million vertical feet in one year. Great that he was able to find sponsors to chase his dream.
  • ToneCheck - Don't Send the Wrong Message
When I first heard about this, I thought it was a joke, but it is real you can now check the tone of your emails before you send them. No if only they could come up with a way to use this technology to avoid "foot in mouth" syndrome.
  • "Turn out the lights" for Dandy Don

  • Context is King - Digital Curator perspective from A List Apart
We have no shortage of content, be it digital or otherwise. The true value of manging content is to provide context which leads to better understanding of what is being presented. Context can be light such such as free form tagging, or rigid when you have complex taxonomies for records management. This article reminds me of several Enterprise Content Management (ECM) conversations that I have had recently.
