This is an interesting video on what motivates knowledge workers to perform. And how the phrase "I do this if they didn't pay me" become more relevant the higher the cognitive requirements become.
- Editing the DOCICON.XML in SharePoint Hive
Strange as it may seem, SharePoint does not deal with PDF documents out of the box. So you have to dive into the 'hive' to upload an icon for acrobat documents to the images folder. Then hop over to the XML folder and update the DOCICON.XML file. It is a quick and painless process, but sure seems like there should be an automated way of doing this!
- Slate explores why The Karate Kid does not do Karate
An interesting article about how martial arts training in the US has changed over the years. With kids in Tae Kwon Do, I found this an good history lesson on why I get the rolling eyes every time I ask how "karate class" went today. Also of interest was that the Chinese government pitched in on the cost of the remake in order to have the story set in China rather than the US. Politics and Propaganda in movies? Say it ain't so Joe!

- Ning goes premium
I think these are steps in the right direction. I was never fond of the \"ning id\" and it clearly did not when out on the social identity battle; I am not sure if anyone has won yet, but FB & Twitter are good bets. The devil is in the details, how much do I own my content and how do I get it out if I want to leave? I think it was obvious all along that the FREE model was not going to last.

- Twitter To Add Metadata
At what point in the process of adding meta data (tagging and categories) does the twitter service start looking like a myriad other publishing platforms that offer a more robust experience? Can market share alone float twiiter or will the changes lead to another MySpace by the side of the I-net byway?
The hook of twitter was ease of publishing. No longer did I need a website, blog, domain, hosting or even a computer. I could publish to the web from my phone. It\'s appeal was the simplicity of use. Can they increase the complexity of the services and still win on ease of use?
